Calvin Ayre From Bodog.com Continues The Fight

In a press release on September 6, 2007, Bodog.com announced that the sports betting and gambling company has reached a brand licensing agreement with Kahnawake-based Morris Mohawk Gaming Group. That after the gambling company had been brought in a terrific legal mess by its colorful founder, Calvin Ayre. The online gambling company has lost the rights to the Bodog domain name and trademark to 1st Technologies and also had an order to pay $49 million in damages to the suing company.

Now, we have to ask ourselves, how will Bodog.com manage to deal with its operations and marketing in North America being given the gambling companies’ actual situation? This does not stop Ayre from hyping the move in his statements, both in style and in content. Bodog domain names had been already confiscated and the only small hope for them to be recovered is by further litigation.

Further lawsuits to recover the lost domain names could be a move that maybe will enlighten the entire argument and the exit strategy, but for now the situation is cast in fog. The head of the Kahnawake-based Morris Mohawk Company, Alwyn Morris, has a story at least as interesting as his new partner's, Calvin Ayre's life story. Morris is a Olympic double medal winner in kayaking. At the 1984 medal ceremony he legendary held up his ancestors' emblematic eagle feather, encouraging since then the cause and pride of Canada's Aboriginal peoples.

He worked with youth in the Health and Welfare Canada Native Drug Abuse Program, and has even won Canada's highest civilian honor. However, conservatives could label him as a negative element regarding his participation in the online gambling industry.

In his blog, Calvin Ayre attacks in strong language the company 1st Technology saying that he choose to associate with Mohawks because they are known for not backing down from a fight. Ayre invokes in his blog the Mohawk history, whose ancestors scalped 56 Americans during the Battle of Beaver Dams, so he is not seeing a good future for Lewis if he takes on head to head with his associates. Ayre also describes Lewis as a Patent Troll in his blog. This is a term for a bottom feeder that lives off stealing other people's patents.

On the other hand, Alwyn Morris had a more civil declaration, saying that their deal with the sports betting and gambling company, Bodog.com is a great addition to the Kahnawake gambling industry. “Working with the top names in the gambling industry will continue to strengthen the wide experience, knowledge base and importance of this vertical”

What next? The fight will certainly have extra rounds and you can be sure we will stay put to watch.
